"I have always taken pride in trying to strike people out,'' Lincecum said on a conference call with reporters. ``It's one of those things that get me fired up."
Tim Lincecum is a 24-year old right hand player who received 23 first-place votes and 137 points during the balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America followed closed by Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks with 73 points and finally Johan Santana who came in with 55 points. Santana is with the New York Mets.
Lincecum played to victory with his team one quarter of the time in San Francisco and finished last season with an impressive 72-90 record. He is also the Giants' second pitcher to win the league's best pitcher award, won before him in 1967 by Mike McCormick.
"This year it came up as a good pitch for me," he said. "I found a grip that I am comfortable with." That's the truth, eh?
